The poster of STRINGS 2012 shows "Kämpfende Formen" ("Fighting Forms") painted by Franz Marc in 1914. Marc is one important representative of the German Expressionist movement and was a founding member of "Der Blaue Reiter" originating from the Neue Künstlervereinigung in München. The picture can be seen at the Pinakothek der Moderne, Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, München.
