Conference dinnerThe conference dinner we have planned is not to be missed! It will take place at Restaurant Hofbräukeller, a traditional Bavarian restaurant in downtown Munich. We have arranged a buffet with a mouth-watering selection of international and local food, including vegetarian options. In true Bavarian fashion, there will also be a barrel of world-famous Munich beer. The cost of the dinner is €60, which is to be paid at the conference registration. The Hofbräukeller is located at Innere Wiener Straße 19, Munich. The nearest U-Bahn station is Max-Weber-Platz on the U4 and U5 lines. Social activitiesThe social activities take place on Wednesday afternoon. There are several options. Some of them involve excursions to enjoy the scenery of the area surrounding Munich. These are a good option if the weather is pleasant. Other options include staying within Munich to visit the world-class art museums and require less travelling. While participants are free to do as they please on the free afternoon, organizers from the conference will be available to show participants around on the following trips listed below. The social activities are free of charge. However, please note that participants will be required to pay for transportation to and from the activities. For activities within Munich, participants who opted to buy a weekly ticket for the inner city will not have any additional transportation fees. See the section on public transportation for more details.
Andechs AbbeyThere is a Benedictine abbey in Andechs that is famous not only for its flamboyant church in which composer Carl Orff is buried, but also for its brewery. This excursion would involve an approximately 2 hour travel time through the scenic Bavarian countryside to reach the abbey. Participants are then free to tour the church and enjoy the local beer at the beer garden.
Tegernsee LakeThe Tegernsee Lake is a beautiful area in the Bavarian Alps. It is perfect for conference participants who enjoy hiking or just spending the day in the sun in beautiful surroundings. Getting to the lake will take approximately 1.5 hours from the conference venue.
Nymphenburg PalaceThe Nymphenburg Palace is a Baroque palace in Munich that served as the summer residence of the historical rulers of Bavaria. The palace has large beautiful gardens and a stunning interior. The advantage of this excursion is that a tour through the palace can be done in any weather. It also does not involve travelling outside of Munich.
MuseumsFrom the Deutsches Museum to the Pinakotheken, there is certainly something everyone can enjoy at Munich's many museums. The Deutsches Museum is the world's largest museum of science and technology while the Alte Pinakothek, the Pinakothek der Moderne and the Neue Pinakothek contain many important works of art. They are easily accessible with public transport from the conference venue.
